Aidan and Tom, our longstanding organisers of our annual comedy-titled MÄkara Peak Enduro, cracked it out of the park on the 28th of January with the Queen Liz Commiserduro. We had nearly 250 entries, and 228 starters on the day (making it our largest event ever).
It's fair to say that the weather didn't entirely play ball, with the beautiful sunshine earlier in the week turning to a howling southerly and rain at the top of the hill.
There was some great racing, with Pohatu and Leaping Lizard being a personal favourite for me. Results are up - Heir and Spare (hard) course and Just the Corgies (easy) course.
As always, the Welly MTB Club loves to support the areas we race, and we're beyond stoked to announce that the contribution given to Makara Peak Supporters from this event was $6500. We love the work that the supports do building new trails, keeping existing trails running mint, and most importantly planting trees to make it such a good place to ride, and the contribution you make from racing our events really helps.
The event was strongly supported, with Parrotdog, Mud Cycles, Marleen, Ground Effect, Hell Pizza and One Fat Bird all providing an excellent pile of swag for everyone.
And finally massive shout-out to all the volunteers that helped on the day, and a resounding "thanks for the memories" to Tom and Aidan, who are stepping back after 9 years at the helm of this event. It's been a blast.
