This weekend at the #waimapihienduro we also had the first presentation of the Alex Chronis memorial award.
If we could describe Alex Chronis (or Wombat as he was known by many) in one word it would be impossible. He was an amazing man with as many talents as he had passions, he wore an infectious smile, and always had a good yarn to share that would either leave you laughing or truly amazed. He was a humble person with an honest passion for helping anyone who needed a hand and touched the lives of all the people who knew him. As a Junior National Champion in both XC and DH heralding from Island Bay this prize is support the next outstanding local rider.
He passed away a year ago, and with the support of Giro and Worrall's we were honoured to have a lasting memorial of Wombat and what he meant to all of us. The award will be presented at the Waimapihi enduro each year for the most outstanding junior.
This years recipient is Noah McLaughlin, who received a Giro Insurgent helmet. We were stoked that Alex‘s family was able to make it along to the presentation.
The award will be presented each year to the most outstanding junior competitor.
